The discussion series is linked to the battery cell production Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI). The IPCEI aims to move the whole value chain to Europe to make Europe a global market player. Large investments are being made to open gigafactories in Europe, as the demand for battery cells will strongly increase in the coming years. On top of this, the IPCEI wants to help achieve the goals of the European Green Deal and therefore places great importance on sustainability and innovation.
The session is organised by the accompanying research team of the IPCEI programme European Battery Innovation (managed by VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH on behalf of the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy). The team promotes the establishment of battery cell production in Germany and Europe, connects the funded projects with actors of the battery cell production ecosystem, supports political decision-making processes and moderates the stakeholder dialogue.
