Mobility fulfils not just a basic need of the human being but is also the foundation of a global society and the necessary pre-requisite for business activities. At the same time, it poses great challenges to us.

This not only has an impact on the effects of traffic, on our climate and our relationship with energy but an all factors greatly influencing our quality of life such as, for example, nitric oxide and fine dust pollution or noise control issues and land usage. In the future, mobility will become more intermodal and more multimodal to form an interconnected totality of barrier-free, high-performance local public transportation networks (ÖPNV), individual vehicles, car and/or ride-sharing offerings, sustainable commercial transport as well as non-motorised transport such as, for example, bicycles and pedestrians.

In order to sustainably strengthen the business location of Germany, competencies must be bundled in business and science beyond the classical industries. Thus, the expansion of the corresponding value-creation chains from research to production to application can be simulated.

Electric Mobility

Electric mobility in all its facets is a global key to climate-friendly and sustainable restructuring of mobility and, in Germany, a component of the energy revolution. Already today, the eco-balance sheet of purely electric vehicles is substantially superior to the eco-balance sheet of comparable conventional vehicles. The linking of the electricity sector with the transportation sector creates new potential for flexibility, better balances supply and demand, and improves both the system efficiency as well as the supply reliability and system stability – but, at the same time, increases the degree of complexity. The newly-created synergistic effects of the coupling of sectors can also contribute to an economic optimisation of the overall system.

Automated and Autonomous Driving

Not only alternative drivestrains will be a symbol of future mobility structures; developments promoting autonomous driving will also make important contributions towards preserving the mobility which the society requires, e.g. through autonomous shuttle transportation in rural regions.

In order to create future-compatible mobility, it is not enough to regard this only as a spatial movement and use of transport resources. It is necessary to take into consideration ecological and social aspects such as sustainability, post-fossil fuel mobility concepts, interconnected and robust cities, car-to-x communication, intelligent transport systems and services as well as aspects of energy production and energy storage.

With regards to the demographic transformation and inclusion of all of society’s stakeholders, new mobility concepts are also required. Electrification and automation coupled with energy efficiency are the key disciplines for realising these visions.

Advising, Promoting, Analysing, Organising

We support our customers from the German federal government and the German state governments as project manager during the design and implementation of promotional measures in the areas of transportation, sustainable mobility and energy efficiency. In addition, we conduct studies and evaluations on these themes, organise networks and participate in important European projects.
