Education and sciences are cultural points of crystallisation in modern civil societies. Together they provide a framework for discussing the state and development of society, technology and the economy, and contribute to empowering individual members of society to take part in this discourse. At the same time, education and science form the foundations for social and economic innovation. While science generates knowledge and inventions that can lead to product- or process-related innovations, educational institutions play a vital role in the development of knowledge, skills and competencies, all of which are forms of human capital essential to the innovative capacity of organisations and societies. Against this backdrop, innovative solutions in the fields of education and science are particularly important.
More than ever before, our world is shaped by megatrends, such as demographic change, global climate change, increasing urbanisation, as well as far-reaching, technological and social processes of transformation. Digitalisation is deeply changing our private and working lives and is interacting with technological and social innovations to create new possibilities for the world economy and society at large. Flexible production procedures, decentralised value-added processes and platform-based business models are transforming industries and placing high demands on the innovative and adaptive capacities of companies, corporations and individuals.
The department Digitalisation promotes the digital transformation of the company. The main focus is on key innovation projects to increase efficiency and develop new digital services.
The Electronics and Microsystems Department supports the further development of technologies and applications in the fields of microelectronics, microsystem technology and energy technology. The department’s employees work in these areas on behalf of German federal and state ministries as well as networks. They conceive funding programmes, evaluate project proposals, play a supporting role in ongoing projects and examine project results. In addition to national research and development projects, they also assist German partners participating in European programmes and projects.
The Society and Innovation Department concerns itself with the emergence and development of innovations and systems for innovation along with their necessary conditions. To this end, its members observe and analyse both the drivers of and obstacles to innovation in technology, business and society. In addition to its strategic foresight endeavours and scientific analysis, the department lends its expert support to concrete research and development projects as well as to technology-based start-ups. The department’s particular experience lies in assisting in the formation of state funding measures, analysing their impacts and deriving recommendations intended for stakeholders in technology- and innovation-related policy-making processes.
Located at the VDI/VDE-IT branch office in Munich, the Industrial Research and Innovation Department is a highly competent point of contact for both public-sector and private-sector clients in Bavaria. The department provides advice and information to companies and research institutions about every aspect of Bavarian funding programmes as well as about funding alternatives offered by the German federal government and the EU.
The Information Management and Data Processing Department supports the VDI/VDE-IT by providing complete IT infrastructure to all of its employees, both in Berlin and at its branch offices. Its operation of the company’s IT infrastructure is ISO 27001 certified.
The Innovation and Cooperation Department mainly assists small and medium-sized companies with innovation-related processes. In order to withstand global competition, companies are compelled to design and manufacture high-value products, both in terms of functionality and quality, within ever-shorter innovation cycles and in a temporally, materially and energy-efficient manner. In many cases, this is only possible through networking as well as through collaborative arrangements with other companies or research facilities.
“Think regionally – act globally” is the motto of the International Technology Cooperations and Clusters Division. The economic and social development of regions in national and increasingly in international competition is very high on the political agenda. Innovations and suitable innovation policy are thus considered to be important driving forces. Moreover, international know-how and technology cooperations are increasingly gaining in importance.

To this end, it has a wide range of PR measures at its disposal to actively support clients in, and advise them on, all matters concerning their press and public relations work.
