Autonomous electric driving is gaining ground. Although many vehicles already have anti-lock braking systems, steering assistance or navigation devices, researchers are working on ideas that will go far beyond these technologies. Will there soon be vehicles that can travel without any human intervention and that will respond adequately in dangerous situations ? Can delivery vehicles be steered around the city in such a way as to ensure that traffic jams are a thing of the past?
There are many reasons to believe that in future, new possibilities in area of public transport and goods logistics will be opened up by the use of automated and even self-driving electric vehicles that are networked using IT. In this brochure, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research provides information about the current status of research in this area.
