A new study makes the battery cell manufacturing ecosystem in Europe transparent. On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, the accompanying research team on the battery cell production funding measure in form of an Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) has analyzed the actor networks along the value chain. After all, low-cost, sustainable and high-performance energy storage systems for electric cars are crucial to the success of the mobility revolution in Europe. European players are currently doing everything they can to catch up with Asian production facilities. The study analyzes the actor networks along the value chain. This reveals opportunities for more networking and future partnerships. The authors have also drawn up eight recommendations for action.
