Study shows success factors for European battery cell production

In order to reduce CO2 emissions in the transport sector across Europe and even make them emission-free and thus climate-neutral by 2045, there is a strong focus on electric mobility. However, battery electric vehicles can only make a meaningful contribution to these goals if the entire value chain of battery cell production, including recycling, operates sustainably. On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, the accompanying research team for the battery cell production funding measure in the form of an Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) has elaborated the success factors for sustainable battery cell production in Europe in a new study. Based on nine theses, the authors, among other things, focus on the areas of climate protection and circular economy as well as economic efficiency and employment.
