In the context of the project, two topics are analysed – (i) 3D-printing and (ii) connected digital consumption – and their possible consequences relevant to the environment delineated. In order to evaluate the environmental burden and relief potential, a trend-analysis method has been jointly created by VDI/VDE-IT and Adelphi research GmbH that allows a reproducible description of indirect environmental impacts. The methodology relies on literature and big data analysis supported by software solutions as well as on workshops with experts on the topics. Output of the research is published in form of trend-reports that describe conceivable environmental potentials and dangers and offer guidance for future environmental policy.
The iit, in cooperation with Adelphi research GmbH, has developed a reproducible trend-analysis method. In terms of content, the iit’s focus lies on software supported literature and big data analysis based on which social and environmental policy issues are described and possible developments predicted.
