The funding programme “Schaufenster Elektromobilität” (“Electromobility Showcase”) serves as a central governmental measure to implement the government programme Electric Mobility which was passed in 2011. The programme aims to pool and visualise German competencies in the areas of electric vehicles, energy supply and transport systems in selected, large-scale and regional pilot programmes. In close cooperation with the public sector, industry and science, innovative elements of e-mobility are tested and made tangible for the public. In addition, impulses are generated for promoting national and international demand.

Following the advice of an independent expert jury, the federal government has chosen the following “showcases e-mobility” in 2012:

  • LivingLab BWe mobil (Baden-Wuerttemberg)
  • Internationales Schaufenster Elektromobilität (International Electromobility Showcase) Berlin-Brandenburg
  • Unsere Pferedestärken werden elektrisch (Our Horsepower Is Turning Electric) (Lower Saxony)
  • ELEKTROMOBILITÄT VERBINDET (Electromobility Connects) (Bavaria-Saxony)

In the four showcase-regions, 90 joint projects, including 334 subprojects, are funded by the German federal government between 2012 and 2016. Additional projects receive support from state governments and other partners.

VDI/VDE-IT workes as a Project management agency for four federal and two state ministries.
