The Electronics and Microsystems Department supports the further development of technologies and applications in the fields of microelectronics, microsystem technology and energy technology. The department’s employees work in these areas on behalf of German federal and state ministries as well as networks. They conceive funding programmes, evaluate project proposals, play a supporting role in ongoing projects and examine project results. In addition to national research and development projects, they also assist German partners participating in European programmes and projects. Other tasks of the department include managing networks and strategy processes as well as organising events and trade fair presentations. The department prepares specialised briefs about technological developments and makes them available to its clients. Questions regarding education and advanced training, as well as networking in value chains, are also considered.

The department is located in Berlin but also has a branch office in Dresden, which allows it to closely serve Saxony’s large number of electronics and energy-related companies. The specialists at VDI/VDE Innovation + Technology in Dresden tend to the region’s innovation-related matters and receive support from an interdisciplinary team in Berlin when necessary.
