Modern networking is unthinkable without information and communication technology (ICT): In key areas such as Industry 4.0, Big Data or the Internet of Things, ICT connects humans, things, ideas, infrastructures and businesses. This not only opens extensive opportunities but also poses challenges calling for innovative solutions: data accessibility needs to be restricted to authorised entities only; systems need to be safe from manipulation while always being available; and since automation steadily increases ICT has to be anticipatory. It is therefore necessary to include approaches on IT-security early on during the process of developing mobile and connected communication systems.
As project manager, VDI/VDE-IT supports the Federal Ministry of Education and Research in analysing relevant issues and in conceptualising and executing funding priorities in the areas of communication systems and security in information technology. We give advice on innovation policy questions, organise project funding and prepare workshops, conventions, and conferences.
